What’s your favorite "News" website?
by Wonderment innews in general are supposed to be unbiased.
but given how commercial and political interests get their tentacles around them, finding a fully unbiased news website is not so easy.. here in america some would rather trust bbc or reuters than they do cnn or fox news.
any favorites?.

Regarding politics and government, it's hopeless. The so called news section is actually op-ed pieces, some times subtle and well disguised, others just flagrant op-ed pieces passing for news articles. What we can do is cover the whole spectrum and do some sort of "averaging". But not enough time for that, so I have turned to tending my own garden instead, a private and productive activity (paraphrasing Voltaire's Candide)

Material such as the film at the end of this years convention confirms that I was right to take my kids out the religion
by jambon1 init’s quite affirming to see the horrific material that they’re serving up at the convention this year.
aside from blatant homophobia, the scenes at the end of the convention that are discussed on another thread stoop to new levels of fear mongering.
it seems to occur to nobody inside the organisation that this kind of material could trigger fear, deprsssion, anxiety, stress.

Was that grey bearded man Jesus?.. at the end of the video? He has been aging too fast for a divine creature. Who wouldn't when your brothers on Earth screw up so badly every time they speak. I think Jesus was pointing the arrow to AMIII and his gang. He's had it with them!

of course, he approached me and it didn't take more than a minute into the conversation for him to get into the jdub gloom and doom mode.
he said that world conditions have never been as bad as they are now.. i looked straight into his eyes and said, "i think that world conditions were a lot worse during world war two.".

...and just about anytime before that.
Take a look at population explosion in the 20th century. Mortality went down and continues to go down, like never before the 20th century. Standards of living are better than ever for everyone. Famines are almost non existent (obesity is the new problem). Wars are pretty much restricted to few civil wars in few countries. Longevity keeps going up.

You stole my thunder, but also reminded me of a sister from Chihuahua, Mex, my own birth land. She would tell the story of how these JW's knock on the "wrong" door, deep in the mountainous territory of drug lords. The narrative went in the opposite direction. The drug lords were kind to them and let them go without a scratch. I believe they were even fed while in brief captivity. These must have been the real JW's., not the fakes of the story above.

Wealth, Poverty, and Morality

apart from sex, (which i am quite relaxed about) it seems to me that wealth is the surest divider between those who are moral, and those who are not.. it seems jesus thought so, also.
luke 16:19-31 kjv describes well enough his dusty attitude to the rich who do not succour the poor.. and this world has many poor: so many, it might seem that we can do nothing about it, and twist his words; 'the poor ye shall have always with you, but me, ye shall not have always.

In African, near Eastern and Latin American countries the greatest problem is corruption from the bottom to the top. Fix that and you fix a great deal of poverty. But how do you fix that???
I know about corruption in Latin America because I lived there and participated in corruption as much as the next. Corruption is deeply rooted. Everyone takes shortcuts because... well... everyone does it. Corruption is the main cause of the great gap between the rich and the poor. Talent comes second.

Are You Proud of Your Country?
by snugglebunny insome people are of the opinion that it doesn't make any sense to be proud of one's nationality because we had nothing to do with where we were born.
the decision wasn't ours.
they opine that it's ludicrous to be proud of our countries' prior achievements if we had no part in those achievements because we weren't even around then.

That's my understanding of pride. Whatever I accomplish, nothing else is a source of pride. I can only go as far as deriving pride from how my children turn out because I had a lot to do with it.
I feel no pride or shame from other people's accomplishments, even if they share my genes.
Inculcating patriotism is just another form of mind control. I may feel lucky that I live in a country of the West, especially Europe or Northamerica, but no pride. I can also decide to defend the country I live in by using reasoning. No need for emotional manipulation, as it s often done in patriotic speeches and rallies.
